On 1st November 2018, 16 teams gathered at Braintree Golf Club in Braintree for the annual Lambert Chapman charity Quiz Night.

As part of our fundraising partnership with the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, all proceeds from the evening were pledged towards supporting the wonderful work this charity does in our local community. We were delighted to be joined by Fundraising Manager Kate Alden on the night, who kicked off the 2nd half of the evening by telling us all about the charity and how they are dedicated to supporting people whose lives are touched by cancer through complementary therapies, counselling, support groups, research and clinical trials.

Our regular QuizMasters Richard ‘Tricky’ Hamilton and Mike Carabine had been busy behind the scenes putting together 8 rounds of questions alongside the dreaded Marathon – a possible 50 point booster round which this year was based on pictures of Celebrity Royal Wedding Guests, Car Logos, Countries and BBC Sports Presenters. We had some strong team performances here with our two top teams both scoring 44/50.

The remaining rounds covered Music (backup speaker came in very handy thanks to a technical glitch), Food and Drink, Chemical Elements (which cleverly turned into a Geography test too), History, 10 x 10, Famous Duos, Inventors and Inventions and finally a General Knowledge round to end the night.

Round 6, Famous Duos, turned out to be a popular round to play the Jokers, with 9 of our 16 teams up for double points – a well-played move by the eventual winners on the night…

We have included a full breakdown of the final scoreboard below.

  • The Raffle

The Raffle topped up our fundraising pots with a huge number of tickets sold during the evening. Prizes were kindly donated by local businesses, clients and contacts and we can’t thank you all enough for your support.

  • The top 3

The mighty Birkett Longshots representing Solicitors Birkett Long have held the trophy for the last 4 years running and they were unstoppable once more, with an impressive 214 points out of a possible 230 – a 93% answer rate.

2nd place went to serious quizzers representing Maldon Chocolates with 208 points scored – not bad at all considering they had put out a team of 4 people, compared to everyone else’s 6!

Optimum Independent Financial Advisers rounded off the top 3, with a score of 198.

  • We couldn’t do it without you… thank you!

Firstly, to our hosts Braintree Golf Club, the bar team and Platinum Catering for handling our mammoth food order – you were wonderful as always.

To our 16 teams, many of whom join us year after year – your continued support is appreciated and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

To everybody who donated a prize to the raffle – ticket sales make up a huge proportion of our fundraising total and you are all superstars!

To QuizMasters Richard and Mike who work so hard in their own time to put on a good show with a really good mix of questions.

To our Lambert Chapman staff who came along and helped the event run smoothly and to the Partners who were kept busy acting as our glamorous bar runners for the night.

  • Fundraising Total

Proceeds from team entries, raffle ticket sales, after-dinner games, collection pots and a further donation on behalf of Lambert Chapman LLP means that we raised an awesome £2,240 for our Charity of The Year – the most we have ever raised from a single event.
