Snapshot Prize winner collects IPod Nano

Once again the Snapshots quiz causes consternation amongst the readership over one of the answers and this time it is I who is in the firing line. All of the answers were taken from my Lambert Chapman 2008 diary and I think that some of our entrants might have picked up on this. However, the internet did not agree and once again I was left with a steward’s enquiry to decide the winner!

Having done so Rose Evans of Abbey Mortgages Limited was drawn out of the hat and wins the Ipod Nano. A client of the Maldon office and long standing friend of Debbie Monk she is pictured receiving her prize from John Smith-Daye. The questions and more importantly the answers were:

1. 26 February saw the first running of the Grand National Steeplechase – but in which year?

1839 was the year we were looking for.

2. 1St March saw the publication of Nostradamus’s book of prophecies in which year?

1555 was the year of publication.

3. Walt Disney’s “Cinderella” was released in 1950. But on which day?

I was looking for 5 March as according to my diary this was correct. However, nearly everyone said 15th February 1950 and on making my own enquiries on the Internet I concur with the winner that the date I wanted corresponds to the first colour comic strip of the film and its characters in Sunday Newspapers. Everyone who put forward the February date was awarded the answer correct as were those who selected my answer.

Talking of Disney it reminded me of a very good Scots joke. What’s the difference between Bing Crosby and Walt Disney? Answer (and a good Scot’s accent is now needed) Bing sings but Walt Disnae!

4. 7 March saw the opening of the Victoria tube line in which year?

I wanted 1969 which I was surprised by myself.

5. On 9 March the Rapper Notorious B.I.G. was killed in New York in which year?

1997 was the year in question.

6. Sharon Stone celebrates her birthday on 10 March but how old is she in 2008?

The correct answer is 50.

7. Julius Caesar was murdered in?

44BC was the right answer.

8. American physicist Robert H Goddard launched the first liquid fuelled rocket in which year?

The answer was 16 March 1926.

9. The elastic band was patented on 17 March in which year?

The correct answer was 1845.

10. The Sydney Harbour Bridge opened on 19 March in which year?

The answer is 1932 and a very fine bridge it is too with a spectacular view from the summit as this photograph testifies.
