John Smith-Daye is a local man having been born in Clacton-On-Sea. He was educated at Clacton County High School and Oxford Polytechnic. John trained in the Colchester office of a national firm. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 stayed there for another 4 years before joining a smaller local firm. In 1994 he joined Lambert Chapman and became a partner in 1996.

He is actively involved in the local business community. He is a former Finance Director with Business Link (Essex) Limited and is Treasurer of the Maldon District Marine Association, and Mid Essex Historic Buildings Trust, as well as being a member of the Chamber of Trade, and Town Centre Strategy Group Managing Board.
