Lambert Chapman LLP's Beatles Snapshots prizewinner announced
The Autumn Snapshots draw took place and Rick Patmore of Unizone Financial Management Limited won and duly selected Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road as his four remastered CD's for the prize. He is seen here collecting them from Nick Forsyth and inevitably the subject turned to music;
NF: Which of the four CD's are your favourites?
RP: For me it has to be Rubber Soul and Revolver. Whilst other albums may have more well known tracks on them they have always been close to my heart.
NF: Revolver is considered by many to be the best Beatles album and certainly marked the change from the early sing along tracks to the more mature songs.
RP: That is certainly true but some of the later stuff, like some of The White Album as an example, is not up there in my favourites.
NF: The medley on side 2 of Abbey Road - well all of side 2 of Abbey Road is out of this world. I remember seeing McCartney in 1989 and he closed the show with Golden Slumbers/Carry that weight/The End and I was thinking how can we be seeing this it's so classic. Are you going to see the O2 show on 22/12?
RP: No, I was not aware it was on. Had I known my wife would have been keen to go.
NF: What other music do you like Rick?
RP: I do like some new bands through my children. It's gone a bit full circle now with them introducing us as Parents to new bands where before they were listening to our music. I've been buying box sets of Genesis live albums recently which are remastered and have extra live tracks and demos on them which are really good.
NF: I loved Genesis, Yes, Rush and have some great tapes of live gigs that really need converting to MP3 format before the tape disintegrates. One Genesis concert was from the Duke tour which I couldn't get tickets f
or but was on Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show and includes Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, Carpet Crawlers, Ripples, Deep in The Motherlode and a great version of The Knife as an encore.
RP: I have the technology to convert that! I love the Gabriel era and have seen him since as a solo artist. His voice has gone a little so certain songs are dropped an octave but he remains a madcap entertainer on stage.
NF: Rick thanks for popping in and enjoy your Beatles albums.
