Lambert Chapman LLP teams complete Sunrise Walk
Mist accompanied the Sunrise at 4.44 yesterday morning but it did not deter the 636 female walkers who donned their pink shirts and put best foot forward to raise money for Farleigh Hospice. When Lambert Chapman LLP were approached to help Farleigh get a first event off the ground in Braintree by acting as a major event sponsor we were delighted to help as part of our community support programme. Having entered teams of walkers and provided a number of marshals around the course our conclusion was that the event was an overwhelming success that included all age groups.
The Braintree team was led by walker number 1 Lisa Potter and despite taking a wrong turn just after the start they were back on track by Check Point 1, manned by Sean Wiegand and Richard Hamilton, and completed the full circuit in an acceptable time. Nigel Whittle, Nick Forsyth and Chris Harman were also marshalling around the Felsted half way point and able to offer encouragement to our girls as they pounded the fields and roads. In these difficult economic times one can worry that individual focus will not be upon a new event such as The Sunrise Walk but the number of walkers demonstrated how important organisations such as Farleigh Hospice are to the local community and a great spirit was in evidence during the walk and particularly at the finish as hundreds of pink shirted ladies queued for bacon rolls and chatted over their experiences.
As for the fund raising itself we understand that £62,000 was pledged on the day which from our point of view as a major sponsors is a brilliant figure for a first event and a fantastic return on the investment made. Credit for this goes to Debbie de Boltz and her team whose experience of running such events is a vital ingredient to their success.
