BBF Gets the thumbs up - Come along and find out why

On 30th January we launched our 2007 BBF Programme in Braintree with an appropriately entitled ‘You can win at Life’ which was based on the book of the same name written by Steve Redgrave. A very enlightening read that is easy to relate to and not full of guru theory by people you never have heard of or convinced that they live by their convictions.

The session was attended by various business people and the interaction between them was excellent – ideas and opinions flying all over the place. During the second half of the session Ron Gathercole, a psychotherapist from Independent Therapy Solutions educated us on how our mind deals with negative thoughts and how these can be used positively. In attendance also was Nick Athorne known to many businesses in Essex and beyond and below are some comments that Nick has made for us about the session.

“Now, as some of you know I have a well known reputation in Essex and beyond for being a very active networker, attending numerous events either as a facilitator or as a member of an audience, from all of which I learn. With this in mind, I would like to say just how much I enjoyed attending Lisa Potter’s Business Builder Forum (BBF) session held in late January at the Cornerhouse in Braintree.

This two hour event, part of a series, is built around Sir Steve Redgrave’s book: ‘You Can Win at Life’ in which he describes his ten rules to being successful in life, which of course can applied to oneself in business. To find out what they are, you will have to attend one of Lisa’s sessions, or read the book, preferably both. But what I found particularly useful and uplifting was that, with prompting from Lisa’s presentation, we all, sitting round a table, began to describe aspirations that we held and how we proposed to achieve them, starting with :’Is this aspiration realistically achievable, and if so, what steps shall I need to take?’ In the same way, we discussed how we addressed issues, in life or in business which are often the same, which, as we discovered, do not have to be insurmountable if only we put them into perspective and manage them out in bite sized chucks.

An altogether thoroughly worthwhile session spent over coffee and a bacon roll (some people had two!). I would recommend it to anyone, particularly those who think that they are confronted with issues and goals and need a gentle leg-up over a hurdle. And who are they? Well, every single one of us of course!”

All businesses need a little help now and then, and all business owners can benefit from the experiences of others. These events are ideal for exactly that purpose and the informal atmosphere allows you to express all your concerns easily.
